Description
In the late 1980s, Italian studios introduced a new form of deep house called ‘dream house.’ Inspired by American deep house records, particularly Larry Heard’s spacey melodies and jazz-influenced tracks from New Jersey, dream house had a distinct Italian touch. It embodied a dreamy atmosphere with lush chords, smooth basslines, flowing piano melodies, and celestial electronic sounds.
Unlike the faster and heavier music emerging from the UK and low countries, dream house producers in Italy maintained a warm and colorful musicality until 1993. While there were few records made after that, the sounds and loose aesthetic of dream house influenced future genres like trance and progressive house.
At its peak, dream house, or ‘ambient house’ as labeled by the Italian label DFC, resonated through club sound systems across Europe. Its popularity was partly fueled by the international success of “Sueno Latino.”
Welcome To Paradiso is a compilation that gathers some of the finest examples of dream house since the early 90s. It features scene anthems like Key Tronics Ensemble’s “Calypso of House,” Morenas’s “Sonnambulism,” and the ambient mix of Last Rhythm’s “Last Rhythm,” along with other rare and sought-after gems.
The compilation includes tracks from influential figures in the movement, including Don Pablos Animals, Sasha, and Dreamatic, as well as lesser-known names that played a significant role in shaping the sound. Young Marco also includes Leo Anibaldi’s “Elements,” a rare deep house piece from a producer who later became influential in Roman techno.
Welcome To Paradiso is a celebration of one of the most evocative and imaginative musical styles from electronic music’s golden era. Kick off your shoes, look up to the sky, and immerse yourself in the music with these two vinyl compilations and digital download.
